Lanvin Lust

Whist loitering with intent in Harrods' Watches and Fine Jewellery department, I dribbled so hard over the new Lanvin jewellery collection, I swear I saw the sales assistant wipe down the counter as I walked away. I can't find an image of the actual necklace I'd sell my grandma for (if she was still alive) but it's all in the T-bar fastening, which can be seen on this bracelet, and the way the glass crystals are set into the chunky links ...

Husam el Odeh at Harrods

On Thursday 15th April, to celebrate the launch of the new Acne boutique at Harrods, Husam el Odeh curated an in-store retrospective of his work as an illustrator and jeweller. Handsome Husam held court, surrounded by a bevvy of tall, ethereal, Acne-clad people and he had - very kindly - put my book on a pedestal, opened to the chapter about him.
Husam does a nice line in re-working found objects (pencils, watches, glass stoppers, old rings) into his work, which often blurs the line between jewellery and fashion. Click on the images below to see what the pieces are made of.

The spiky pendant in the background was made from pencils for fashion designer Siv Støldal's Aw06 menswear show.

Birds Of A Feather

I just spotted this helmet by Jordan Askill on the Another Magazine website. Appropriately enough, for a man inspired by all things sci-fi, it’s called Battle Cat (Swarm Of Swallows on Water).

It features in the beautiful video for We Want War by These New Puritans, which stars Jordan and was directed by his brother, Daniel. Check it here.

The best bit is that if you look closely, the helmet’s made of dozens of tiny birds.

It reminds me a lot of the piece Jordan made to accompany the launch of my book at Colette. The sculpture – created using rapid prototyping – became the starting point for the one off Birds Protect ring (below) which is made from 18ct white and yellow gold. Love, love, love It.
